The Vergennes Opera House is located in the historic heart of Vergennes, Vermont. Occupying the second floor of City Hall the Opera House was built in 1897 on the site of an earlier structure that served the same purpose. After closing its doors in the 1970’s the building was restored by a group of citizens seeking to bring live arts and entertainment back to the ‘Little City’ and to preserve the landmark building that had served the community for generations. Today the Opera House is operated by the non-profit Friends of the Vergennes Opera House as a year round center for the presentation and enjoyment of arts, cultural and community events, and celebrations of all kinds. With something going on nearly every weekend and many days and evenings during the week, the Opera House has something for everyone. From classical and opera to films, folk, blues and theater.
